About The Pod

“The Sweetest Pod” is a new podcast consisting of hilarious and often informative conversations, that also turn very real sometimes, conducted by your host & beloved NYC comedian, Seth Herzog.

Born out of the loss of performing live because of the worldwide- lockdown- particularly Seth’s long running & respected show “Sweet,” (which was running monthly at the Chelsea Music Hall)- Seth has assembled a collection of his favorite actors, comedians, writers, musicians (Including Questlove, Jerry O’Connell, Nikki Glaser, Bob Saget, Horatio Sanz, Sal Vulcano, Jeff Garlin, Taran Killiam, Leslie Bibb etc) to chat, riff and get very real with. Most of the folks Seth interviews are old friends of his, or at least seem like they are. Some of them he’s known since they were kids, others since Seth moved to NYC in the 90’s and others he’s met in his travels in the comedy world, and spaces. Each conversation has one thing in common, they all feel like you’re eavesdropping on two old friends hanging out, catching up and asking some pointed questions about their past & present and often giving some very surprising answers. They also discuss topsics like, what scares them and what made them who they are. These conversations are mostly conducted over Instagram Live, and then edited into the highlights & for sound quality and then put out to you to enjoy and feel like you’re there with us.

I hope this podcast inspires you to explore. Feel free to leave a comment or follow me on social media!

ABOUT SETH

Seth is a longstanding & beloved NYC comedian, actor, writer, and yes, also producer of live and taped events. Seth was born in New Jersey (Englewood) and lived in Tenafly for until he was 4 (save for a year in Holland, where his family tour windmills, sampled cheeses & started to speak Dutch). He and his family then moved to Princeton, where he was brought up & remained until he went off to college (and where his father and sister currently still live). While growing up in P’ton, Seth got his first taste of being a professional actor, when his close friend,

comedian/director Michael Showalter, asked him to accompany him to an audition for McCarter Theater’s production of “All The Way Home.” Seth ended up getting one of the parts, and eventually also just cast in McCarter’s inaugural production of “A Christmas Carol” and “The Mikado.” While in his high school, Seth did much more theater, including “Gypsy,” “Wonderful Town,” “Three Penny Opera,” and more, along with Chris Barron (Spin Doctors), members of the band Blues Traveler & was contemporaries with Ethan Hawke and many more. From 5th grade to 9th grade, Seth spent each summer at Stagedoor Manor, a “performing arts training center” established out of the the remnants of the “Borcht Belt” in the Catskills Mountains. This is where Seth got an honorary degree in hard knocks, was awarded numerous trophies (some more earned than others) and learned a lot about stage craft and how the world works. Mostly, he made many of the friendships, that still comprise his base of compadres now!

After high school, earned a scholarship, to “Rhodes College,” a very well regarded, small institution in Memphis, TN. Being a Jew from NJ, Seth stood out and soaked it in, receiving a lot of attention for simply just showing up. He decided to be a history major (spending a semester at Oxford & in Europe studying medieval and renaissance art), and a theater minor, where he was notably lead in “The Actor’s Nightmare,” & a student adaption of the book, “White Noise.”

After college, Seth spent a year living back in Princeton, working in the sales dept of McCarter Theater and waiting on professors at the University Faulty Club. He was also cast in McCarter Theater’s “A Christmas Carol” (’92 & ’94) & “Much Ado About Nothing,” as well as being in an original play in NYC, “The Arrangement.”

When Seth moved to NYC, he began auditioning and doing stand up. Earning a spot in 4 national Wendy’s ad and doing several Off-Off Broadway productions.

He also became a beloved fixture in the emerging Alt Comedy scene, performing regularly at hots shows like “Stella” at Fez, “Eating It” at Luna Lounge and then producing “The Industry Room,” and long running “Sweet.”

As Seth’s comedy career grew, he was discovered by the folks at VH1, who had him as one of their leading comedic talking head for 10 years. He even co-hosted their show “Fails” as a puppet for two seasons. As his star rose, he garnered some memorable turns on Comedy Central's "Broad City," "Chappelle Show," "Stella," "@Midnight," and performed on "John Oliver's NY Stand Up Show." He’s also appeared on NBC’s “30 Rock,” and their prime time panel show “What We Wasted Our Year On.” As well as on, CBS’ “Love Monkey,” ESPN’s “Mayne Street,” E!’s “Number 1 Single” & was a short lived comedy correspondent for E! News. Seth is was a regular panelist on the comedy/news show “Red Eye,” and still makes appearances on Ari Melber’s show “The Beat” on MSNBC.

Seth is currently the resident comedian and sketch performer at "Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon," (and was the same for "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”). During that time, he also the starred in the feature comedy, "Boy Band,” on Amazon, and was the host of two Nat Geo's channel science/comedy hybrids shows, "Duck Quacks Don't Echo" and "Science of Stupid." Seth also went on a national comedy tour with Jimmy Fallon, and often hosts "The Roots" “jam session” shows on tour as well.
